The Sea is Yours

“The sound of the sea that is no longer heard due to the constructions that continue along the coastline of Istanbul’s Karaköy district.” With this text underneath, a photo as a record of a situation hangs on the wall: In Istanbul’s Karaköy Port, instead of the sea itself, the pedestrians walk alongside huge boards covered with nostalgic photographs of the Marmara Sea. The construction for the Galataport uses one slogan that strikes the nerves of citizens: “The Sea is Yours, Istanbul is yours.” The works borrows its name from this slogan. The golden frame of these photographs resemble the golden ornaments of the exhibition space.
